Paris is the City of Light — a destination that never goes out of style. From the Eiffel Tower to the Louvre, the Seine riverbanks to Montmartre, Paris rewards every type of traveler.

Best Time to Visit Paris
April through June is the classic window — mild temperatures (55–75°F), long daylight hours, and the city at its most photogenic. Spring blossoms line the boulevards and the terrasse culture kicks into full gear. September and October are equally good: summer crowds thin out, prices ease slightly, and the light has a golden quality that photographers love. July and August bring peak crowds and prices but also outdoor events, pop-up beaches along the Seine, and a festive atmosphere. Winter (December–February) is cold but magical — fewer tourists, Christmas markets, and beautiful light displays.

Paris has so many world-class sights that planning ahead is essential — lines can be brutal without pre-booked tickets.
- Eiffel Tower: Book timed-entry tickets in advance — walk-up lines can exceed 3 hours in peak season. The summit view at night is breathtaking. Arrive at opening or in the final hour before closing for thinner crowds.
- The Louvre: The world's most visited museum. Allow at least half a day; a full day if you want to cover it properly. Book online to skip the ticket queue entirely.
- Notre-Dame Cathedral: Currently undergoing restoration after the 2019 fire — the exterior and surrounding Île de la Cité are still beautiful to explore.
- Musée d'Orsay: The world's finest collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art. Monet, Renoir, Degas, Van Gogh — all in a stunning converted railway station.
- Versailles: A 40-minute train ride from central Paris, the Palace of Versailles and its gardens are worth a full day. Buy a Palace + Garden ticket in advance and arrive early.
- Montmartre: The hilltop neighborhood above Paris — home to the Sacré-Cœur basilica, artist workshops, and the best views over the city. Walk up through the vineyard lane for the most atmospheric approach.
Paris Neighborhoods: Where to Stay
The arrondissement system defines Paris, and where you stay shapes your entire experience:
- 1st–4th (Central/Marais): The most central and most expensive. Le Marais (3rd/4th) has the best café culture, Jewish quarter, and LGBTQ+ neighborhood. Excellent base for first-time visitors.
- 5th–6th (Latin Quarter/Saint-Germain): The classic Left Bank — bookshops, philosophers' cafés, the Panthéon. Premium price for the romance of it.
- 9th–10th (Canal Saint-Martin): Younger, more local, more affordable. Excellent restaurant scene, the covered passages, and easy Métro access to everywhere.
- 7th (Eiffel Tower area): Quieter, residential, and the most Instagrammable views. Higher hotel prices in exchange for proximity to the tower.

Compare Car RentalsWhere to Eat in Paris
The stereotype of French snobbery is vastly overstated — Paris is one of the most food-diverse cities in Europe and has a strong tradition of casual, affordable eating alongside its fine dining scene.
- CrĂŞpes and galettes: Any street stand does them justice, but the crĂŞperies in Montparnasse (the original Breton quarter) are the best in the city.
- Boulangerie culture: Pick a bakery near your hotel and go every morning. A fresh croissant and café au lait is the correct Paris breakfast, full stop.
- Marché des Enfants Rouges: Paris's oldest covered market in Le Marais. Moroccan couscous, Japanese bento, organic produce, oysters. Perfect for lunch.
- Bistros over tourist restaurants: Any restaurant on a major tourist street (near the Eiffel Tower, on the Champs-Élysées) charges double and delivers half. Walk two blocks into residential streets for genuine Parisian cooking at honest prices.
